Welcome to the Keystone Award Section

The scheme has been developed to accredit the skills, competencies and qualities
acquired and demonstrated by Young People in Clubs and Projects affiliated to Clubs for Young People Wales.

The Keystone Awards Scheme encourages the personal and social development of Young People by focusing on: -

Opportunities and Challenge

Participation and Commitment

Attitudes and Behaviour

Responsibility and Respect

Each Keystone Award is intended to: -

v     Be straightforward

v     Provide an opportunity for Youth Workers and Young People record and

v     value the contribution made by participants

v     Encourage them to become more actively involved

v     Undertake new activities, experiences and challenges

In addition the Keystone Awards Scheme is designed to compliment the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and in many instances activities undertaken specifically for one of these awards schemes will be transferable either in part or as a whole.

Involvement in the Keystone Awards Scheme is entirely voluntary and open to participants from school year 8.

There is no upper age limit but the Award Scheme is designed so that Young People may complete all four Awards by the middle of school year 11, i.e. before their GCSE exams.

The Keystone Awards Scheme is intended to encourage the involvement of Young People in the curriculum offered by Clubs for Young People Wales beyond club and project level thereby offering a range of additional opportunities to assist both participants and staffing personnel.

Young People are required to undertake a range of “Tasks” for each Award.

Encouragement should be given to ensure that some tasks are undertaken individually and some in groups.

The Scheme relies heavily on the commitment and assistance of the adult workers; both Voluntary and Paid. This support is vital to the success of the Scheme in general and essential to the gaining of awards by participants.

Whenever an individual has successfully demonstrated/completed the required standard for each task, the Club or Project Worker (holding the Operational Licence) must endorse this achievement.  An external Assessor will endorse satisfactory completion of each Award to gain certification.
